Minister for Panchayati Raj, K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday lashed out Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for trying to gain mileage and drive a wedge between people of the two States by politicising issues pertaining to irrigation, when it came to the waters of the River Godavari and Krishna.
“Mr. Naidu is indulging in politics because Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao boldly told people that he would not ask for their votes again if he was not able to honour his promises. One of those promises is the water grid, a holy programme of taking drinking water to the doorstep of people across the length and breadth of the State,” he said, setting the ball rolling for works pertaining to the Ellor segment of the Telangana State Water Grid Project at Nagashala in Jadcherla of adjoining Mahabubnagar district.
The articulate Panchayati Raj Minister pointed out that even before N. Kiran Kumar Reddy stepped down as Chief Minister, he had specifically said that according to the Central Water Commission, the 10 districts of the then Telangana region were eligible for 1,200 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water, including 900 TMC from Krishna. “It is sad that Mr. Naidu is courting controversy and trying to put a spoke in the wheel even when it came to such a grand project,” he regretted.
