Classical musicians gathered at the temple city to pay glorious musical tributes to Sri Tyagaraja, the doyen of classical music, at Mahati Auditorium here on Saturday on his 168th death anniversary, which was observed as ‘Aradhanotsavam’.

The daylong music carnival organised by the TTD was akin to the grand gala festival conducted in Tiruvaiyaru (Tamil Nadu) every year on the ‘Bahula Panchami’ day, when he breathed his last.

The event started with ‘Sobha Yatra’, a procession of the 2.5 ft ‘Panchaloha’ idol of Thyagayya from the Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance campus to Mahati Auditorium, in which vocalists and instrumentalists joined by rendering his mellifluous numbers. A total of 108 artistes rendered the musical gems (Pancharatna Kritis). Executive Officer D. Sambasiva Rao, Joint EO P. Bhaskar, Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishat special officer S. Raghunath and Music College Principal Y.V.S. Padmavati took part.
