Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) State president Dandu Veeraiah Madiga and activists beat the “dappu” in their protest in front of Kurnool Collectorate on Wednesday.

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Veeraiah Madiga demanded a Ministry to ensure the welfare of leather workers in the State and facilitate export of animal skin by eliminating middlemen. He sought appointment of a Madiga leader as chairman of The Leather Industries Development Corporation of A.P. Limited (Lidcap) to fill the vacancy that arose two years ago and allotment of 500 acres at Amaravati for Lidcap.

The closed Lidcap units must be revived and ‘Malupu’ scheme must be revived with an outlay of Rs. 1,000 crore, he said. The Government must issue a G.O. entrusting the footwear stands, near temples managed by Trust Boards, to the Madiga community. Dappu artistes must be extended the Government’s welfare schemes and facilities such as bank loan of Rs. 2 lakh without insisting on security, monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 and free insurance of Rs. 2 lakh.

MRPS district president Ch. Naganarasimha Madigaparticipated.
