Protesting MRPS activists removed the barbed wire fencing put up by the police, engaged in a scuffle with cops and gatecrashed into the Kurnool Collectorate on Wednesday demanding that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu fulfil his promise of categorisation of SCs.

The protesters demanded that Mr. Naidu lead a delegation to New Delhi to apprise the Central government of the issue. They submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector Prasanna Venkatesh .

The activists led by its district convenor T. Narasimhulu Madiga came in large numbers to the Collectorate shouting slogans demanding an amendment to the Constitution for categorisation of Scheduled Castes for the purpose of reservation in jobs and in educational institutions.

They demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should ensure adoption of a resolution in the State Assembly and follow it up by leading an all-party delegation to New Delhi to impress upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.

High drama

A high drama was witnessed as a posse of police personnel posted in front of the Collectorate obstructed the way of restive MRPS activists who tried to gatecrash into the Collectorate.

Sensing that the situation was going out of control, police personnel bodily lifted a group of MRPS activists into waiting police vans after a high drama.

Meanwhile, another group of MRPS activists caused a flutter by climbing on to the mega drinking water tank near the Addanki Bus Stand Centre in protest against the police action. Police had a tough time in making them climb down.
