Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday assured SC reservation to the Boya/Valmiki community and also to give MP ticket to a Boya/Valmiki leader either from Kurnool or Anantapur district.

Addressing members of the BC associations at Gorantla in Kodumur constituency in Kurnool district during his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Mr. Jagan said he would organise a BC garjana and make a BC Declaration after his Yatra concludes. Mr. Naidu promised a BC sub-plan with an annual budgetary outlay of ₹10,000 crore, but hardly spent 22% in the last four years, he said.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu promised ST category status to the Valmiki and Kuruva communities, SC status to Rajakas and the BC status to Kapus, but made no efforts in the last three and half years and cheated them, he alleged. He assured uplift of all the BCs. To a representation by washermen that landlords were attacking people of the BC communities in the Chief Minister’s constituency and that of Minister K. Atchannaidu, Mr. Jagan stressed the need for an ‘atrocities prevention Act’ for the BCs on par with the SCs and the STs.

Promising that the education sector and welfare of weaker sections would be in the priority list, he assured revival of the golden era of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy if he was voted to power.

Before the TDP came to power, all the essential commodities were supplied through the Public Distribution System, only rice was being supplied now.

Mr. Jagan promised construction of the Gorantla-Yerragudi bridge within two years of gaining power.

His padayatra on the 18th day went on from Ramakrishnapuram in Pathikonda constituency to Yerragudi and Gorantla in Kodumur constituency. He made a night halt at Venkatagiri.
