As expected, there were more IAS and IPS officers from AP wanting to shift to Telangana than the other way round as the deadline for applications expired on Saturday. The Centre had recently notified provisional allotment of AIS officers between the two States, pending a final decision on individual requests for cadre change by allowing them to swap places. Interestingly, the option will be allowed only in the same category and also the pay grade which meant that the requests of the senior most would be considered and the juniors would be left out.
Complain against erring officials
There is nothing uncommon about Anti Corruption Bureau asking people not to pay bribes to government servants. But, Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao took the drive against corruption to the next level with an open appeal of the same nature to the public on Sunday. During an interaction with slum dwellers of Warangal, he asked them not to hesitate to call his office if any officer or lower staff tried to demand money.
A promise that carries huge burden
Among all the aspirations of people in the Telangana, jobs obviously took precedence over all others, more so because the TRS government promised “a job a family” before polls. And the promise is beginning to tell on the officials of the newly-formed Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). “People think we are a government job manufacturing company. Without a clear mandate from the powers-that-be, we cannot even move an inch to help,” said a senior official .
The respect that
they deserve
Some officials continue to command respect long after they move out. IPS officer, Shaikh Mohd Iqbal, is one of them. Now he is allotted to AP cadre, but his services as special officer of the State Wakf Board are still remembered. In a span of six months, he was able to shake up the sleepy behemoth as he ordered a spate of enquiries and ruffled quite a few feathers. But, things are back to square one at the Wakf Board after he is shifted to AP No one knows the fate of enquiries he ordered or the reforms he tried to set in.
A sought-after Collector!
Nizamabad Collector D. Ronald Ross is the youngest among four officers whose retention has been sought by the Telangana government though they are allotted to AP. The government was said to be impressed by his style of functioning, strategies to implement development programmes,and, above all, his way of dealing with public grievances. What more can a youngster ask at the start of his innings.
