The officials of the Animal Husbandry Department have mooted selection of about 500 villages in the first phase as part of development of cattle and milk production.

The joint director (animal husbandry), M. Srinivasa Rao at a meeting held with the veterinary staff here sought them to mingle with the dairy farmers and extend qualitative treatment to the cattle in view of getting superb milk yields.

The official discussed with them regarding the condition of the dairy industry and need to increase the population of the quality breed cattle and increase the milk production in the district.

Mr. Rao said that dairy industry always held special significance in Chittoor district and a large number of rural population have been depending on the milk production. The department staff should coordinate with and educate farmers about methods to have high milk yield and generation of quality cattle breed. He sought the staff to coordinate to increase the daily output of milk from 22 lakh litres to 26 litres. Focus should also be laid on creating awareness among farmers regarding protection of calves and conceiving in cattle. Division-level training classes would be mooted for the veterinarians about tests and treatment to cattle under conceiving.

The department will ground all the developmental schemes in the select 500 villages on the first leg of transforming them into model villages in dairy sector. He directed the field staff to prepare proposals in this direction.
