Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan on Saturday asked the State government to mobilise the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients of the Uddanam region if it was not financially strong.
He suggested the State government to hold a meeting with industries for the 25,000 patients affected by the CKD.
Mr. Pawan, who launched a hunger strike on Friday at a resort, continued it till 5 p.m. Saturday at the Government Art’s College.
He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had allocated ₹2,000 crore for pushkaram work and spent crores to stay in five-star hotels during renovation of his house, but was unable to extend assistance though more than 20,000 patients had died in the last 15 years.
Mr. Pawan said he was in a position to get political recognition on his own strength and there was no need to take up protests for political mileage.
He would be happy if his party would come to power in 2019, while claiming that he was not keen on electoral victory.
Mr. Pawan alleged that the State government had tried to demoralise the JSP by delaying permission for the meeting in Srikakulam.
Dig at Modi
Mr. Pawan criticised the Narendra Modi government for failure to allocate funds and accord the Special Category Status. “I blame the TDP also for this chaos as it had extended its support to the Modi government for four years,” he said.
Representatives of various organisations extended their solidarity with him. Some of them were given chance to air their views. A majority of them hoped that the JSP would be a formidable force by 2019.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) State secretary P. Madhu and CPI State secretary K. Raamakrishna extended their support to Mr. Pawan. They alleged that the TDP government failed to justice to any section.
