MLA’s vehicle kills youth, injures another

One youth died on the spot and another sustained serious injuries after Gannavaram MLA’s car ran into their bike at Jonnallanka village of Lankala Gannavaram hamlet in East Godavari district on Tuesday night, the police said on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Booriga Kumarraja (19), son of Bhushanam of P. Gannavaram and the injured was Lakkavarapu Rajesh (21). After the accident, Rajesh was admitted to the KIMS Hospital at Amalapuram, where his condition was said to be stable.

According to P. Gannavaram police sub-inspector G. Harish Kumar, Gannavaram Congress MLA P Rajeswari was returning home after completing her election campaigning, when her vehicle ran into a bike, killing Kumarraja.

Case registered

The youths were returning after participating in a poll campaign, the SI said, adding that they had registered a case against the driver of the MLA’s vehicle. MLA Rajeswari said that she met the family members of deceased on Wednesday and announced compensation.
