Minister promises to improve services in state-run hospitals

The government will set up AIIMS-like super-speciality hospital-cum-teaching institutes for every three or four districts, he said.

Expressing concern over the “poor” upkeep of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here, Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas on Wednesday promised to improve health services at all State-run hospitals in a time-bound manner.

“I feel sick on entering RIMS. People will not pardon me if the poor upkeep of RIMS continues any further. I will shortly hold an emergency meeting with MLAs and others concerned to streamline the functioning of RIMS,” he told reporters here.

Dr. Srinivas said the government would set benchmarks on various aspects, and that all State-run hospitals, including teaching hospitals, should compulsory fall in line. He added that he would inspect every State-run hospital to ensure that patients are getting better services.

The government will set up AIIMS-like super-speciality hospital-cum-teaching institutes for every three or four districts, he said.

The Minister added that RIMS would be upgraded into a speciality and super-speciality hospital in phases.

He also promised to ensure the early availability of blood components separator machine at RIMS to mitigate the sufferings of dengue patients who now have to visit either Nellore or Guntur to get blood platelets.

Earlier, he went around the hospital along with Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao, senior BJP leader Bathina Narasimha Rao and senior TDP leaders Karnam Balaram Krishnamurthy, D. Janardhan Rao, Divi Sivaram, Yelluri Sambasiva Rao and Kadiri Babu Rao and RIMS Director B. Anjaiah.
