Mercury shoots up to 40°C in State

Heat wave conditions to continue

With weakening of the south west monsoon, several areas in the State reeled under heat wave conditions on Sunday.

Considered unusual due to subdued monsoon, the temperature is expected to rise further in the coastal areas, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre.

On Sunday, several areas in the State recorded 40° C.

The maximum temperature recorded was: Visakhapatnam Airport 41.4, Waltair 38.8, Tuni 40.1, Rentachintala 40.2, Machilipatnam 40.8, Bapatla 40.3, Ongole 40.5, Kavali 40.7, Nellore 40 and Kakinada 40.7.

Weathermen predict rain or thundershowers at one or two places during the next 24 hours.
