A first year student of the Anantapur government medical college was on Thursday found dead on the railway track close to the Lakshmi Nagar area in the town.

The victim, identified as Yashwant (21), hailed from Hindupur of the district. His father and mother are both teachers. A suicide note purportedly written by the deceased states that while his parents supported him a lot, ‘he wasn’t able to face the world’ apparently due to mental stress of the ongoing exams.

“Yashwant appeared for the bio-chemistry and anatomy exams over the past few days and was supposed to attend the physiology exam on Thursday. It is indeed sad to know about the demise of a bright student,” said Mr. K.S.S. Venkateswara Rao, principal of the medical college.

The victim reportedly could not take the pressure of studies, as he got used to rote learning taught to him during his intermediate studies, and lacked the confidence to appear for the exams. The body has been sent for post-mortem to the government hospital and will be handed over to his parents later for cremation, the police said.
