Maoists gun down former sarpanch in AP district

A former village Sarpanch was gunned by Maoists on Monday in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

Saraiah, whose wife Samakka is presently the sarpanch of Lingala village here was killed in the wee hours, after a group 20 Maoists forced their way into his house and took him and his son Jagan to the outskirts and shot him, they said.

The extremists tied the duo to a tree and opened fire on Saraiah branding him as a police informer while they left Jagan with a warning, police said.

They told Jagan that his father was working as a police informer since 2003.
