The Anantapur police picked up a person believed to be involved in the Bangalore ATM attack case but later let him off after thorough questioning saying it was a case of a mistaken identity.
Following an alert by an ATM security guard about a person with similar facial features to that of the ATM attacker, the police took the person into custody from the Ram Nagar area on Friday night.
However, after verifying his credentials, the police came to the conclusion that he was a native of Kurnool and that it was a case of mistaken identity. He was released later.
Murder case
Meanwhile, the Penukonda police ruled out reports that the ATM attacker was behind the murder of a woman in Dharamavaram town recently. They said that the murder was fallout of an illicit relationship and certainly not the handiwork of the accused in the Bangalore ATM case. The special parties formed by the police have intensified their search for the accused.
