A man murdered his wife before committing suicide in the Gudibanda mandal headquarters in Anantapur District. The incident, which came to light in the early hours on Friday when neighbours tried to reach out to them, was a shock of sorts to the otherwise sleepy village.
According to the Gudibanda Sub-Inspector Venugopal, the accused Ranganath (27), working as a sweeper at the local panchayat office, was a reclusive person and was married to Mamata (20), his elder sister's daughter ten months ago.
Speaking to The Hindu, the police said that the accused slit the throat of his wife and later committed suicide by hanging himself.
Ranaganath, the police said, was known to be very reclusive person, according to his neighbours and that his wife had complained to her parents that he doubted her fidelity. This doubt in his mind probably led to her murder, the police said.
The police have registered a case in the matter and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
