A 28-year-old man, Rapani Sailu, killed his wife and four children by slitting their throats when they were fast asleep at his residence in Tadwai mandal in the wee hours of Thursday and later fled. The scene of offence presented a ghastly picture with the bodies lying in a pool of blood.

Sailu tried to end his own life, but failed, after committing the heinous crime. He tried to strangulate himself with a rope, but it got snapped. Shocked by the incident, his parents Yellaiah and Rukmamma who live nearby, informed the police and neighbours.

Before his arrest in Kamareddy, Sailu called up his father Yellaiah over phone from Nizamabad and reportedly confessed to the crime.

Kamareddy Deputy SP D. Uthamkumar Reddy switched on the loudspeaker of Yellaiah's mobile phone so that mediapersons could hear the conversation.

Sailu said he committed the crime as his father refused to give him money for purchasing a new motorbike.
