A man hacked his wife to death at a computer training institute at Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district on Monday. He later surrendered before police. According to police, Maturi Sunitha (27), a resident of Kunduru village in K. Gangavaram mandal, got married to Maturi Venkata Manikyala Rao (32) of K. Gangavaram five years ago, and they were blessed with a baby boy.

However, Sunitha returned to her parents with her child a year ago after problems erupted in their marital life. Besides registering a case against her husband and in-laws under Section 498A (dowry harassment) of the Indian Penal Code, she lodged a complaint with the K. Gangavaram police, stating that she was being threatened by Manikyala Rao. Later, she joined a computer training course.

On Monday, around 1 p.m., Manikyala Rao went to the institute and hacked Sunitha to death. The victim was alone at the institute when she was attacked. Rao at once rushed to the police station and surrendered. He told police that he had been carrying a knife since morning with the intention of attacking Sunitha. A case was registered.
