A man reportedly dumped his aged mother at the gate of a graveyard on Wednesday night and fled. The hapless woman spent the whole night at the entrance of the graveyard, and landed in an old age home on Thursday morning with the help of locals and police.

According to DSP L. Ankaiah, Vuppu Hanumantha Rao (49), only son of Vuppu Saraswati (70), a resident of Rajamahendravaram for the last seven years, is working as a mechanic. The family, which hailed from Peruripeta, on the outskirts of Amalapuram town, shifted to Rajamahendravaram in search of livelihood. On Wednesday, Hanumantha Rao took his mother along with him to the Municipal Colony graveyard after midnight.

Around 1.30 a.m., he left her near the main gate of the graveyard and went away.

Saraswati was found unconscious at the gate in the early hours of Thursday by local people, who informed the police. Circle Inspector Y.R.K. Srinivas and locals interacted with the elderly woman to elicit information.

Saraswati said that she was having a problem in her right arm, and after her son’s marriage, Hanumantha Rao and his wife started harassing her.

On Wednesday night, Hanumantha Rao reportedly convinced her that they were going to Peruripeta to attend some function and left her near the graveyard.
