Traffic on National Highway- 65 came to a standstill for about half an hour with Congress leaders holding a rasta roko demanding justice for land oustees of Mallannasagar in Toguta and Kondapaka mandals.

“The Chief Minister began his political career from this district, but is now showing least regard for the people of this region by going against their wish. Why is the government not transparent in acquiring land and why is it not following the Land Acquisition Act -2013?” asked former Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha, while addressing party workers here.

“The government has completely failed to recognise people’s emotion,” said District Congress Committee president and former Minister V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy. Former legislator T. Jayaprakash Reddy demanded that the Ministers and MLAs visit the village, hold discussion with villagers and convince them by giving a good deal instead of becoming middlemen purchasing land under GO 123. He said that the party would intensify agitation if justice was denied to Mallannasagar land oustees. A large number of party workers took to sloganeering and took out a bike rally from IB to the National Highway.

Later, the agitating Congress leaders and workers were shifted to rural police station and were later released.
