The Machilipatnam Area Development Authority (MADA), which was constituted recently, is likely to expedite the process of setting up the deep sea port on a priority basis.
It is learnt that all the stakeholders are in favour of the project proposed in an extent of nearly 5,277 acres of land. Over 563 families are to be rehabilitated.
Of the required 5,277 acres, the State Government needs to gather only 2,489 acres of private land, and hand over the extent to the proponent, Navayuga Engineering Company Limited.
“The MADA is likely to concentrate on giving a final shape to the port project in terms of pooling the private land and enable the proponent to begin the works. The port will attract more projects in the Machilipatnam Industrial Corridor,” sources told The Hindu .
“There are no objections from any stakeholder as people to be displaced by the project have given their consent,” the sources said.
The State Government is required to garner support from all stakeholders for the Sagar Mala project and port policy. The policy emphasises on the need for having a Coastal Economic Region in a 10-30 km radius of the port.
The MADA to be headquartered in Machilipatnam would come up with a Land Pooling System to identify 14,500 acres of private land to be spared for the Machilipatnam port.
