With an ambitious goal to expand the Lok Satta Party across the country and make it a serious player in politics, its three-day national council meeting commenced here on Friday.
More than 200 delegates from nine States across India would deliberate and decide on the course to be taken by LSP and it would be announced by National president Surendra Srivastava and party founder Jayaprakash Narayan at the end of council session here on April 5, said A. Srinivas, chairman of National Communications Committee here on Friday.
The Bihar unit of the party will also be launched in the National Council in view of the ensuing elections there.
Speaking to media persons after the national steering committee meeting, Mr. Srinivas said that many organisational and political decisions were expected to be made by the national council. The council would discuss various ideas and finalise a strategy. This is the first national convention to be held after Mr. Surendra Srivastava took over as party president, he said. Mr. Rajeev Pai, spokesperson from Mumbai said Lok Satta pioneered the idea that politics was the vehicle of change and that inspired many to look at politics without disdain. Many political parties and intellectuals were now speaking Dr. Jayaprakash’s language, he said.
Hyma Potineni, national general secretary, said Lok Satta Party had the highest number of members in Hyderabad in 2006. The organisational structure would be strengthened again and innovative programmes would be launched.
Jagadheeswaran Dakshinamurthy, national spokesperson from Chennai said the party would fight for the rights of the unorganised labour and build a mass movement for their rights, safety and better working conditions and against corruption that impacted people’s lives.
