The Left parties will take up a sustained campaign against the ‘anti-people’ neo-liberal economic policies of the NDA Government at the Centre which further opened the economy to foreign capital, CPI national secretary K. Narayana said on Wednesday.

“The need of the hour is to isolate the communal forces which targeted Dalits and minorities posing themselves as Gaurakshaks (cow protectors) and vitiating the communal atmosphere in the country,” he told a press conference here.

As part of the campaign, a nation-wide protest would be organised on August 17 against the easing of restrictions for FDI in, among other sectors, defence, banking, construction, media and airlines. The Left parties would also step up their campaign against disinvestment in public sector enterprises and dilution of labour laws and price rise, which hurt the common people the most, he said. Terming as a ‘mere political rhetoric’ the Prime Minister's appeal to self-styled Gaurakshaks to hit him, shoot him but spare Dalit brethren, he felt that after the BJP came to power at the Centre, emboldened Hindutva forces had taken law unto their own hands at the grassroots level and unleashed a reign of terror in among other states, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, alienating in the process Dalits and minorities. It was an irony of sorts that there was no opposition to abattoirs run by big business houses.

Judicial probe sought into Nayeem’s activities

Mr. Narayana demanded a judicial probe with a sitting high court judge into the nefarious activities of slain gangster Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem

He said that the renegade Naxalite had reportedly amassed huge wealth by indulging in illegal land settlements and also allegedly had links with some ‘corrupt police and revenue officials and also influential politicians.’ “Only a court-monitored probe will bring out the truth fully,” he said.

Party national secretary Narayana says the need of the hour is to isolate the communal forces which targeted Dalits and minorities posing themselves as Gaurakshaks (cow protectors)
