Women were subjected to restrictions all through their life, the SP said and advised them to be bold and fight back like Jhansi Lakshmi Bai. Referring to a spate of attacks on women and girls in Delhi, Chennai and other cities, he said silent spectators during attacks were abettors of crime.

Girls must learn martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, judo and kung fu at an young age to defend themselves and it would help women who need to travel by autorickshaws, taxis and buses during nights, the SP said. He lauded a doctor Manikyala Rao for arranging the kits.

Safety measures were taken in Kurnool old city by installing 1,000 closed circuit cameras, Mr. Ravikrishna said. He told women to dial the toll-free number 100 in case of any trouble.
