January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MACHILIPATNAM:

The Krishna Zilla Parishad general body has approved a budget outlay of Rs. 575 crore with focus on rural infrastructure development for the financial year 2015-16.

Irrigation Minister Deveni Umamaheswara Rao said the government targeted to store 45 TMCFT of water at the Pulichintala project this year to mitigate problems on the irrigation front. Responding to queries on supply of irrigation water for rabi crops, the Minister asked the farming community not to worry about irrigation water for fields located in the tail end area of the Nagarjuna Sagar. “The government is chalking out plans to renovate check dams and irrigation tanks. The completion of Budameru canal modernisation works is an option before us to tackle the irrigation water problem.”

On fishermen’s woes, some mandal parishad presidents requested the government to conduct elections to Fishermen’s Welfare Societies, besides making an appeal to exempt registration of new societies from stamp duty.
