Drawing the attention of the Governor to the land scandals in Visakhapatnam district, former Minister Konathala Ramakrishna has urged him to recommend a CBI probe and direct the State government to protect government and private lands.

In a letter to the Governor, a copy of which was released to the media on Friday, he said the government was shielding key players in the scandal, particularly ruling party leaders, as a public hearing announced by one of the Deputy Chief Ministers was cancelled and a probe by a Special Investigation Team ordered.

Mr. Ramakrishna said the public statement of a Cabinet Minister that land scam had been committed with the collusion of leaders and real estate groups was ground enough to order an inquiry. He said the land scandal covered over 10 mandals in the district. In Kommadi and Maudhurwada alone, land valued at hundreds of crores of rupees was involved.

He alleged that a few officials, who either refused to succumb to pressure or exposed details of the scandal, were shunted to loop-line postings.
