Kodela unveils ‘Wash’ for rural development

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - GUNTUR:

Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao on Wednesday unveiled Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash), a novel scheme under which every village in the district will be provided with basic facilities such as access to drinking water, individual household latrines and health care. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rao said Wash was aimed at making Guntur a “model district”. A core committee, comprising Mr. Rao, District Collector and Joint Collector, which was constituted to ground the scheme, held its first meeting at the Inspection Bungalow here on Wednesday. Schools will also be given special attention through creation of basic facilities under the scheme. He said micro development plans would be drawn up for all panchayats, involving people’s representatives, officials and philanthropists to make them “model panchayats”.
