Many parts of the district experienced intense heat wave conditions with mercury hovering above 39 degree Celsius in Bhadrachalam, Kothagudem and several other towns on Wednesday.
The temple town of Bhadrachalam reeled under searing heat wave condition for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
According to Meteorological Department sources, Bhadrachalam recorded 39.5 degree Celsius on Wednesday.
The water level in Godavari has sharply depleted in the last couple of days.
It plummeted to six feet in some stretches of the river signalling the hard times ahead. Meanwhile, heat wave gripped the coal belt areas in Kothagudem region prompting the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) officials to prepare a contingency plan for taking up preventive steps to cope with rising temperatures.
The maximum temperature in the vicinity of opencast projects in Kothagudem and Yellendu mandals hovered around 40 degree Celsius, sources said.
The mercury levels continue to soar in Khammam which recorded 38 degree Celsius on Wednesday.
It may be mentioned that more than 20 persons died of sunstroke in the last summer season in the district
