Kalamkari exhibition in central France a big draw

A French team led by Catherine Mage has been witnessing overwhelming response from the French art lovers for the Kalamkari exhibition at Nay in central France.

Ms. Catherine Mage of Nellore-based Help India Trust (HIT) is engaged in grooming womenfolk in Kalamkari art form apart from promoting the India’s rural art form in France through several exhibitions abroad. A range of traditional Kalamkari products made in Pedana of Krishna district and a special collection by the women with the HIT are put on display at the ongoing exhibition.

The international exhibition in the Central France began on March 13 and will conclude on March 27. Speaking to The Hindu over phone from France, Ms. Catherine told that a documentary on Kalamkari art was being screened for the visitors. The documentary was produced in Vijayawada city on the banks of river Krishna where washing process of Kalamkari products was done during the Kalamkari exhibition by the National Museum of Mankind — Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahanalay.

“We trained several children in Kalamkari designing during the exhibition to help them understand the process involved in it. Art lovers in huge numbers are turning up for the exhibition,” added Mr. Catherine.
