Kalakendram gears up to host theatre festival

One of the biggest indoor auditoriums in the State, Sri Venkateswara Anam Kalakendram, is gearing up to host prestigious Nandi Natakotsavam for the years 2013 and 2014 to be held from May 14 to 29.

About 3,000 artistes from all over the country are expected to participate in the event. About 400 entries were received from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as also from places like New Delhi. The NTR Rangasthala Puraskaram will be presented to two stalwarts of theatre arts for the years 2013 and 2014 which carries a cash award of Rs 1.50 lakh.

The renovation work of entire Auditorium, mainly by Reliance Industries Limited, Kakinada, is going in a full pace and Rajahmundry MP Maganti Murali Mohan, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, Rajahmundry City MLA Akula Satyanarayana and Pushkaram Special Officer and Rajahmundry Municipal Commissioner J. Murali took special initiative and care in renovating the auditorium.

Meanwhile, the renovation works of Sri Venkateswara Anam Kalakendram are in full swing. District Public Relations Officer and secretary of Kalakendram, M. Francis said that the Reliance Industries assured to spend Rs. 1 crore on renovation works including cushion seating, lighting and sound. The Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry was contributing Rs. 36 lakh towards the beautification besides a donation of Rs. 25 lakh received from Anam Prem Kumar that would be spent for air-conditioning of the auditorium.

Speaking to The Hindu , Film Development Corporation Deputy Manager M. Sesha Sai said that 41 plays have been selected out of 194 entries for the year 2013 and 44 plays have been selected out of 204 entries for the year 2014.

Nandi Natakotsavam for 2013 and 2014 will be organised from May 14 to 29 at Sri Venkateswara Anam Kala Kendram
