With the State Election Commission issuing the schedule for conducting elections to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Friday, the political scene heated up and Mayor aspirants intensified lobbying for the coveted post.

The notification for the election would be released on September 12 and polling would be held on September 16. The results would be declared immediately after the election. In all likelihood, it is going to be unanimous for both the posts.

Of the 48 divisions to which polling was held, the Telugu Desam Party-Bharatiya Janata Party combine won 35 seats. The three TDP rebels who won the election also shifted their loyalties to the ruling party.

Reserved for women

The Mayor post has been reserved for women and the TDP already announced that it would be allocated to a ‘Kapu’ candidate. Following the poll result, there are now four aspirants in the fray for the post with each of them having own channels to reach out to the party’s top leadership. Interestingly, no name is being discussed for the Deputy Mayor post.
