The man who composed great music for most popular Telugu song Janani janma bhumischa…swargadapi gariyasi in the movie ‘Bobbili Puli’ in which late N.T. Rama Rao played the lead role, is no more.
Jetti Veera Raghavulu, popularly known as J.V. Raghavulu (82), died following prolonged illness at his residence in Mangalavarapupeta area in Rajahmundry on Friday.
The music composer was brought into filed with the blessings of legendary singer Ghantasala Ventakeswara Rao during 1970s and his debut film was ‘Drohi’. He worked under Ghantasala for many years and also with top music directors such as K.V. Mahadevan and M.S. Viswanathan. He sang Baito Baito Pellikodaka in 'Pelli Sandadi' (1959) for actor Chalam.
JVR belonged to an agricultural family of Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district and migrated to erstwhile Madras. He was the disciple of one Bhadracharyulu, stage artiste, who played ‘Harischandra’ most number of times in those days, and learnt singing and acting from him. JVR played ‘Lohitasyudu’ in that play. He went to Indraganti Hanumatchastry and Vedula Satyanarayana to learn academics.
He scored music for about 170 films and his memorable songs include and Veena Naadi Teega Nedi Teegachatu Raagamundi, Tarangini O Tarangini and Ee Jeevana Tarangalao' in the film ‘Jeevan Tarangalu’.
‘Katakatala Rudraiah’, ‘Rangoon Rowdi’, ‘Mogudu Kavali’, ‘Intlo Ramaiah, Veedilo Krishnaiah’, ‘Kotala Rayudu’ and ‘Mukku Pudaka’ are some of the films for which he gave popular music.
Only a few years ago, he returned to Rajahmundry and settled with his four sons, a daughter and wife.
