Jumbo menace

Elephant herd creates panic among villagers

February 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHITTOOR:

After a long gap, the presence of a herd of four elephants, including a calf, at Kusuru village of Kuppam mandal on Monday night created panic among people of forest fringe areas.

The wild animals tried to sneak into the agriculture fields by crossing the solar fencing.

Forest officials and villagers rushed to the spot and drove them away into the dense thicket towards Tamil Nadu by beating drums and firing crackers.

A stretch of solar fencing, which was removed recently by the villagers to enable them crisscross in their fields, became the entry point for the tuskers.

On Tuesday morning, the animals were seen moving close to the village again. Farmers fear that the herd would enter their fields by night.

The forest officials arranged watchers to study the movement of the animals.
