Speaker of Telangana Assembly S. Madhusudhana Chary has said it was not desirable to house Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Assemblies on the same premises.
Mr. Chary is said to have made this observation during a meeting with Andhra Pradesh Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao on Thursday. It is understood that the two presiding officers agreed that holding the proceedings for the two Houses from the same complex was not proper. Telangana Speaker suggested that Andhra Pradesh Legislature housing Assembly and Council could function from Jubilee Hall and the existing Council building. It was also pointed out that the Protocol building at the Public Gardens close to Jubilee Hall could be used by the AP Legislature. He is learnt to have said the old Assembly building could be used for the Telangana Legislative Council. The two presiding officers are expected to hold another round of consultation on division of staff and accommodation in July first week.
It is understood that the Speaker felt that employees hailing from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh should work in their respective States. The meeting was attended among others by Telangana Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao, Telangana Legislature Secretary S. Rajasadaram and AP Secretary A. Satyanarayana.
