JSP shuts shop in Hyderabad

Kiran stopped coming to office after polls; top leaders unable to state reasons for its closure

June 30, 2014 10:53 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:10 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

After severe drubbing in the general elections, Jai Samaikyandhra Party (JSP) has not only called it a day when it comes to its activities, but also shut its office here.

Exactly three months after it was floated by the former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, the party headquarters in Madhapur ceases to exist. A couple of days ago, the five-storied building, which is located in Krithika layout in Madhapur was stripped off its party posters, banners and flags. According to sources, some IT companies and rental agents are checking out the premises.

“After the general elections, not just party workers, but even Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy stopped coming here. In the present circumstances, the party office is almost defunct,” said a party functionary, who did not want to be quoted.

The top party members, however, could not give clarity on why the office was shut or whether it was being shifted to a new premise. “I am not aware of this development as most of us are out of station. I can only comment once I come to Hyderabad. Anyway, the party is registered in Kakinada,” said a senior party leader.

It was learnt that furniture and some stationary was also moved out of the building two days ago. The plush white-coloured multi-storeyed building, which used to house the party office, has modern security equipment including coded entry into various rooms.

“If you are interested in taking the whole building for rental or lease then only I can provide you the number of the person concerned. Only one floor cannot be rented out,” said one of the security guards stationed outside the building.

In the run up to the elections, Mr. Kiran Reddy addressed a series of press conferences from the said premises lashing out at the Congress party’s Central leadership for dividing the State.

The new party could not make any impact in the election riding on the ‘Samaikyandhra’ slogan and was thoroughly thrashed at the hustings along with the Congress. Many of the JSP as well as the Congress candidates had forfeited their deposits.

Mr. Reddy himself decided against contesting the elections and fielded his brother from Piler constituency. Congress MPs who had sailed with him too ditched the former Chief Minister at the last minute preferring to either join the TDP or the YSR Congress.
