Jayaprakash Reddy arrested

April 05, 2014 01:09 am | Updated May 21, 2016 08:34 am IST - SANGAREDDY:

Former Congress legislator from Sangareddy T. Jayaprakash Reddy was arrested by the Siddipet police and was shifted to district headquarters late in the night.

Police officials said that he would be kept in the nearest police station as the jail authorities will not take an arrested person after 5 p.m.

According to Siddipet Circle Inspector P. Nagabhushanam, a case was registered against Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy for provocative speech during 2010 by-elections held at Siddipet under Section 153, 505, 506 and 118 of the IPC. He was arrested on July 3 2010, in the same case and was released. However, the legislator failed to attend the court and subsequently a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against him.

On Friday, Mr. Reddy voluntarily attended the court to recall the pending arrest warrant as it would create trouble for contesting elections. However, Principal District Magistrate/Junior Civil Judge Rajender rejected the recall appeal and posted the hearing request on granting bail for Monday. With this, the police have shifted him to the district headquarters.
