The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Osmania University here, a nerve-centre of the separate Telangana movement, on Sunday decided to organise a massive convention of students on January 3 to step up the agitation for bifurcation.

“The Centre should clearly announce the steps for formation of separate Telangana state by January 2. We will organise ‘Telangana Vidyardhi Maha Garjana’ (Massive roar by Telangana students) on January 3,” leaders of JAC said.

“We will flood Hyderabad with students from all Telangana districts. The convention would be organised in such a way that the state and Central governments would shiver,” they said.

Meanwhile, Congress Working Committee member and former Union Minister G Venkata Swamy called on the students, who have been observing an indefinite hunger strike, at the University.

Expressing solidarity with the students, he said the present agitation for separate Telangana is the last battle for the statehood demand.
