In the wake of the controversy raging over the Archaeological department’s reported plans to take over the temples of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), former Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao wrote a letter to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urging him to request the Central government to amend the Ancient Monuments Act.

Mr. Rao, in the letter on Friday, said that the Act had only a provision for a protected monument or a monument of national importance. “There should be a provision in the Act for approval of the Archaeological department as and when changes which are permanent in nature are contemplated,” he said. “I request the CM to consider the suggestion,” he said.
