Family members of Dr. Kosanam Ramamurthy, who was kidnapped by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (IS) militants at Sirte in Libya on September 8, 2015, have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure his release.

A native of Eluru, headquarters of West Godavari district, Dr. Ramamurthy, was working as a physician in Lbn-e-Sina Hospital, at Sirte.

A group of IS militants forced their way into the hospital and abducted Dr. Ramamurthy along with a bio-chemical engineer, Samal Pravash Ranjan of Odisha and seven other Filipino nurses from their residential quarters, on September 8, 2015. In a message sent to the family members after a week of the kidnap, Indian Ambassador to Libya, Azar A.H. Khan said IS terrorists had kidnapped nine persons, including Dr. Ramamurthy, from Sirte and the embassy was making efforts for the release of the abducted Indians.

No communication from the doctor for the past six months was a matter of worry for the family as he never failed to call the family each week.
