Unable to cope with the study pressure, an Intermediate first year student of Narayana junior college attempted suicide by jumping from atop the second floor of the college building at Nannur in Kurnool district on Saturday.

Sriharsha of Proddatur in Kadapa district, studying in Intermediate MPC first year, who made the suicide bid, lost consciousness and the college authorities rushed him to a hospital, according to the police.

Sriharsha suffered head injury and fracture in his hand and leg and is said to be under observation.

Alleging that the college students were being subjected to undue pressure and driven to commit suicide, members of AISF and SFI staged a demonstration before the college and the hospital demanding action against the management. A magistrate recorded his statement when he regained consciousness.

The police registered a case.
