Former Adilabad MP A. Indrakaran Reddy on Sunday quit the YSR Congress which he had joined in December last. He took the step following reneging of party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma on the commitment they made towards supporting the demand for separate Telangana.
Mr. Reddy is among the public representatives in Telangana region who first came up with the demand for carving out a separate State. He was the first convenor of the Telangana Congress Legislators’ Forum, 41 members of which had raised the demand way back in 2000. Through the TCLF and later the Congress Forum for Telangana, the senior leader had raised demands for completion of irrigation projects in the region besides implementation of GO 610 with regard to employment in the region.
He had led delegations to impress upon Congress leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad the need for carving out Telangana.
Indrakaran Reddy was given the short shrift within Congress in the post Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy period which became the root cause of his exit from the ruling party. Though he has declared that he has no intentions in joining any political outfit for the time being, it is very likely that he may stage a re-entry into Congress. Meanwhile, former Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa, who had joined the YSR Congress just three months back is also likely to quit the party on Tuesday. He will also remained unaligned for the time being, according to sources
Puvvada in Congress
Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: YSRC leader from Khammam district Puvvada Ajay Kumar, who had quit the party last week joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday.
Accompanied by Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdary, Mr. Ajay Kumar and 200 of his supporters were formally welcomed into the Congress.
