IIT, other institutions to function from coming year

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and other national educational institutions announced for Andhra Pradesh in the AP Reorganisation Act would start functioning from the coming academic year, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Y.S. Chowdary said here on Sunday.

At a press conference here, he said pending finalisation of land for the institutions it was decided to start admissions by taking buildings on rent. IIT and IISER (Indian institute of Science Education and Research) would be coming up at Tirupati, NIT near Eluru, IIM at Visakhapatnam, National Disaster Management Institute at Mangalagiri and Customs Institute at Anantapur.

The other institutions include IIIT, Tribal University, Agriculture University and a Central University.

He said in addition to those announced by the Centre, the State government proposed new institutes which include Planning and Architecture Institute, Indian Institute of Fashion Technology Institute, Solar Research Institute, Marine Biotech Institute, National Sports Academy and Rail University.
