HC frowns upon A.P. govt. stand

June 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:13 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

A Division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao on Wednesday did not appreciate the stand of the A.P. government that it needed two years to conduct elections to Water User Associations (WUAs), Distributary Committees (DCs) and Project Committees (PCs).

The bench was dealing with a batch of cases filed by Raghupathi, MLA of Bapatla, and others. They complained that elections were not being held for these bodies. The government said that it had constituted a team which was visiting other states and it was yet to submit a report. After the report was obtained two years was needed. The bench said that this was unreasonable and adjourned the case by four weeks so that the report of the committee could be placed before the court.
