A hawker on Sunday attempted suicide by consuming cleaning acid at Dhone in Kurnool district as he was allegedly upset over Sub-Inspector hitting him and his wife over a complaint recently.

According to the police, Varadarajulu and Fatima were hawkers selling groundnuts near the Sri Rama Theatre in the town. They both quarrelled over an issue recently and entered into a fight. Both of them lodged police complaints against each other and cases were registered.

However, when the families of both complainants were called to the police station to settle their issue, the complainants entered into a verbal duel. Varadarajulu alleged that the SI acted in favour of Fatima and even slapped his wife.

Upset by this, Varadarajulu attempted suicide. His wife took him to the government hospital at Dhone. As his condition is critical, doctors referred him to the Kurnool government general hospital where he is being treated.
