Nellore Municipal Corporation has taken up a drive to identify parks and suitable places for developing greenery and creating additional lung spaces in different parts of the city. The move came in response to several appeals made by the citizens.

As part of the drive, the existing parks are being listed out and selected for undertaking developmental works. Elaborate plans have been drawn to develop AC Nagar park at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakh.

The people’s representatives, officials and office bearers of the residential associations have already made visits to the park to find out the issues those need immediate attention.

During his recent visit to the park, Mayor Abdul Aziz enquired from the civic officials about the scope for increasing green cover there, making it more useful for the public. He said AC Nagar Park would be developed and named after former MP Magunta Subbarami Reddy.

Having many green areas, with water bodies nearby, apart from many streams and canals, Nellore city has a lot of scope for giving these lung spaces a facelift. The civic body is also making efforts to usher in the phased development of the areas on city outskirts so that concentrated presence of the city populations in a few localities would be resolved.

Further, areas such as Trunk Road, Ramalingapuram and Pogathota, being densely populated, certainly need greenery and well-developed parks for the citizens.
