Mudragada ends fast after talks with Govt. envoys

The four-day Fast-unto-death taken up by Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham and his family members ended on Monday afternoon with the Government emissaries Boddu Bhaskar Ramarao, Thota Trimurthulu, Pithapuram MLA SVSN Varma, Minister Atcham Naidu TDP State President Kala Venkatrao convincing the agitating leader on the reservation issue.

State Minister Atcham Naidu and Mr. Padmanabham speaking to the mediapersons said that Rs.500 crore will be allocated this fiscal for the welfare of the Kapu community and Rs.1,000 crore allocated every year in the budget from coming financial year.

On the issue of determining percentage of quota for the Kapu community, the Minister and Mr. Padmanabham said that the commission set up for the purpose would give its report in next seven months and things would be taken forward constitutionally.

Tension in Kirlampudi

Earlier, there was tension in the town and every supporter of Kapu Reservation movement is spending anxious moments while the talks between emissaries of State Government and fasting Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham are in progress on Monday.

The outcome of the talks between the former minister and the two-member team - Labour and Sports Minister Kinjarapu Atcham Naidu and TDP A.P. unit leader Kala Venkata Rao is expected in the afternoon.

The district police has detained former Union Minister and actor K. Chiranjeevi and PCC President N. Raghuveera Reddy at Rajahmundry Airport and another former Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao was confined to a Anand Regency Hotel surrounded by police. He reached Rajahmundry in the early hours.

Entry only with ID proof

All five entry points to Kirlampudi village were blocked by police and villagers or outsiders were allowed only if they showed an ID proof like Adhaar or ration card. There was tension at Mudragada's home and media too was kept away from the main door.

Kapu leaders allege that Government was trying to disrupt Mudragada's fast. The police also prevented political leaders from meeting Mudragada. Mr. Dasari Narayana Rao is expected to meet Mudragada late in the evening, if the impasse ends.

Konaseema tense

Many villages in Konaseema region were tense as the news of Mr.Chiranjeevi and Mr.Dasari Narayana Rao’s detainment spread like wildfire. Mudragada's supporters started coming on to the roads despite heavy police bandobast and tried to organise rasta-rokos in I. Polavaram, P. Gannavaram, Amabajipeta and Amalapuram town.
