Godavari River is in spate and as a result, 28 villages in four mandals have lost connectivity in East Godavari district.

According to an official, Rampachodavaram K.V.N. Chakradharababu, about 18 villages, out of the 28, have lost connectivity as Sabari, a rivulet of Godavari River, is in spate after heavy rains in catchment areas in Maharastra.

Officials have reached all 28 villages and appealed to the tribals to move to safer places as the water levels may rise further.

In Jinnelagudem village of Koonavaram mandal, about 200 cattle were surrounded by rising water. Rescue personnel have reached the spot.

Meanwhile, some of the causeways in Konaseema saw hevy vehicle traffic and movement on both sides was stopped after heavy inflows to the River.

At Chakalipalem in P. Gannavaram mandal, which connects East and West Godavari, vehicles are stranded since early hours of Tuesday.

The river, which was at 49.5 feet at Bhadrachalam on Monday evening, rose to 53 feet by Tuesday morning. The water level at Dhawaleswaram barrage was 13 feet around 12 noon on Tuesday. Sources say officials have let out 12 lakh cusecs of water into the sea.
