Geo-tagging must to detect irregularities in housing: Mrunalini

March 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - Hyderabad:

The irregularities in the construction of houses under various housing schemes, including the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme, would be known only after geo-tagging was done. Nearly 4000 houses were untraceable. The irregularities occurred during the Congress government regime, said Housing Minister Kimidi Mrunalini.

She informed the Assembly during question hour on Monday that geo-tagging was completed for 23 lakh houses and another 20 lakh remained to be done. “Action will be initiated against those found guilty,” she said and added that Rs. 3 crore had been spent so far out of the estimated cost of Rs. 9 crore.,

Originally 504 flats were proposed under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme near Edida Kothuru road in Mandapeta town in East Godavari. But only 408 were taken up and the construction was at roof cast stage. The remaining houses would be completed after mobilising the required loan, the Minister said. She evaded a direct reply to Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who wanted to know whether 95 percent of the houses were okay and irregularities were detected only in 4 per cent.

Social Welfare Minister R. Kishore Babu, ridiculed Mr. Reddy’s concern saying he had built the Lotus Pond house in Hyderabad at a cost of Rs. 100 crore while his Yelahanka house in Bangalore cost Rs. 250 crore. How many houses for poor could have been built with this money, he wondered.

Earlier, V. Jogeswara Rao (TDP) alleged a big scam in the housing since Rs. 3 crore was spent without calling a tender. P. Vishnu Kumar Raju (BJP) said the scheme was good but irregularities occurred in allotment of houses.

Geo-tagging of 23 lakh houses is over, she says
