A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was damaged early on Sunday by unknown persons at Jhansi Lingapur Village in Medak district, police said.

A part of the statue was damaged, but villagers immediately repaired the damaged portion and re-installed the statue at the same place, they said.

Villagers expressed their anger over the incident and demanded immediate arrest of miscreants.

Ramayanpet police rushed to the village and began enquiring with the villagers but no case has been registered so far.
