Further delay in retrieval of Masthan Babu’s body

April 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - NELLORE:

The Chile Embassy authorities on Wednesday informed the family members of the departed mountaineer, Malli Masthan Babu, that the retrieval of his body would take more time owing to the continuing adverse weather conditions in the Andes mountain ranges on the Chile-Argentina border.

Bad weather

Masthan Babu’s sister Dr. Malli Dorasanamma received a communication from the embassy that the weather had not relented in the past three to four days, making the retrieval of the body difficult.

No army choppers

The Argentine authorities have also not allowed army choppers to shift the body from the mountain, which is capped with snow.

Meanwhile, the summiteer’s family contacted Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu, who promised all help from the Centre to bring the body to Masthan Babu’s native place at Gandhi Jana Sangham, 40 km west of Nellore.
