Fulfil promises made to disabled, State urged

July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:54 am IST - KAKINADA:

Demanding that the State government fulfil its promises made to the disabled during the election campaign, national president of the All India Disabled Rights Forum Kolli Nageswara Rao on Monday said that the government had failed to ensure a monthly pension of Rs. 1, 500 per head to all the disabled, filling the backlog vacancies and providing financial support for self-employment schemes meant for them.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said that it was unfortunate that the State government was deceiving the disabled. “Instead of paying a uniform pension, the government divided the disabled into groups basing on the disability and releasing the pension in two slabs,” he said, adding that cancellation of Sadaram certification programme on the pretext of paucity of funds was nothing but levying a burden on the disabled.

“Without the certificate, we can’t get anything from the government. The government has to cut short some unnecessary expenditure and resume the Sadaram certification immediately,” he said.
